Arohanoa Mathews
Arohanoa Mathews is a contemporary artist currently working and residing in Tauranga, New Zealand. She has obtained degrees in both Visual Communication Design and Fine Arts from Unitec, Auckland. She has also earned a Diploma of Teaching and Education from the Auckland College of Education.
“My art is who I am, and where I come from. I represent my cultural heritage, Maori, through the use of the kauae (chin tattoo). The notion of Mana Wahine, which is to empower women to have and use their voice in the workplace, home life, relationships and in life generally, has close connotations for me. Through my work, I aim to inspire other women to use their own voice to empower themselves.”
