Dada L.Ch
Dada is an illustrator and designer who describes her creative practice as “dedicated to folksy projects.” The natural environment of her native Taiwan is a source of inspiration to her. She says that “mountains let me know the spirits exist behind everything.”
When viewing Dada’s work, it feels like time appears to have stood still. She combines the plein-air technique of painting outdoors and elements of the Chinese calligraphy line. She aims to redefine the ‘empty space’ concept found in traditional Chinese painting.
Her academic background includes fine art training during the 1990s. She later majored in product design at NTUST, Taipei. This study enabled Dada to “make all creativity real.”
She has collaborated with Ecus Publishing House, Taiwan to illustrate world literature titles, including works by Shakespeare and Victor Hugo. The fantasy style background for these illustrations is inspired by her hometown. This technique accentuates the foreground characters, who are drawn in realistic shapes with distinct textures.
