José Miguel Carvalho Cardoso
From the simple tip of a Bic ballpoint pen, artist José Miguel Carvalho Cardoso constructs urban landscapes, city guides, maps and even the human figure by fusing cartographic elements with an illustration.
José’s observational drawings usually capture common places, moments and landscapes. With a fascination to express the correct line at the first trace, his work is lonely, slow and obsessive.
He regularly creates and designs maps, which are tailor made to the body of each place, combining the drawing of vistas with the cartographic code.
José is passionate about good food and wine, obsessed with drawing and visual arts and currently residing in São João da Madeira, Portugal. He holds a MFA in Design from the University of Barcelona, and a MFA in Drawing from the University of Porto. He’s currently a PhD Candidate in Design at the Aveiro University.
