MIRANDA FREE

Miranda Free is a traditional fine artist inspired by beauty in all its forms and looks for the essential beauty and truth of the subjects she paints.

Since 2013 she has practiced full time in a contemporary realist style across various genres: landscape, figurative, portrait and still life. Her favoured medium is oil paint. However, she is comfortable working across a range of media from pastels to watercolour and acrylics.

Following a successful 20 year career working in the sciences, Miranda decided to pursue her lifelong fascination with art, mainly drawing and painting. She trained and honed her skills at the Arts Academy, a Brisbane-based atelier style school.

During 2015-2016 she travelled much of Australia 100km at a time and created landscape artworks of each location in various media. From these studies and photo references, she has created a series of large oil paintings.

“Some are traditional representational landscapes, but for other works, I have gone through an imaginative, transformative process whereby I attempt to create an immersive experience. I combine various elements, viewpoints and times of day of a particular landscape to give a somewhat surreal representation of place.”

Miranda is currently based in the small township of Nannup in South Western Australia, close to the famous Margaret River wine region.
