Ryoko Ichikawa

Ryoko Ichikawa is an illustrator based in Tokyo, Japan. Her work is produced using a combination of digital and analogue media. She uses a Wacom Cintiq Pro and adds analogue texture. The iPad Pro and Apple pencil are essential tools for her work. To make her artwork more expressive, she layers simple shapes with soft papery textures and colours to create an “airy lightness”, a key characteristic of her aesthetic.

After graduating from Tokyo Zokei University with a curator qualification, Ryoko completed training at the Museum of Contemporary Art. She then worked at a design studio in Tokyo as an editorial designer.

Since 2009 she has worked as a freelance illustrator for magazines, books, advertising and more.
