Martina Ptičar is a traditional illustrator from Zagreb, Croatia. Her grandparents both worked for Zagreb Film, a Croatian company known for its animation studios. Martina’s grandfather was well known for his work on Croatia’s most famous cartoon series, Professor Balthazar. From a young age, she was not only introduced to the art world, she was directly connected to it and began to draw.

She is currently completing her studies, having already achieved a Bachelor of Textile and Fashion Design, and is currently completing her master’s degree in costume design from the Faculty of Textile Technology, University of Zagreb.

She enjoys working with traditional techniques and media. primarily markers. She can also be found working with gouache and making 3D illustrations with a scalpel. She finds these traditional processes “represent in the best possible way, your style and your inner self. In a way, it’s like you are making magic with your imagination, your hands, and your drawing tools. My work represents and reflects who I am; from rich and colourful paisley pattern illustrations to minimalistic black and white illustrations.”

Her creative inspiration is fed by the works of Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt, Salvador Dali and Tim Burton.
