Sampsa Sipilä
Sampsa Sipilä (b. 1979) is a Finnish artist who resides in Turku, Finland. He studied Advertising Design at the Turku Arts Academy and graduated formally as an Art Director. He currently works for the advertising agency, Kajahdus, producing web design, graphic design, and illustration. This agency also represents him as an artist.
He has been writing graffiti for over 25 years, and his inspiration comes from the streets. “The combination of raw materials such as concrete walls and different surroundings like nature or abandoned buildings infused with spraypaint is an experience for all senses. Through the years I have been with graffiti, I can re-live those experiences in my mind. In my graphics work, I try to assimilate those feelings that are accumulated by hundreds of times being in awe with the creative process that lasts for a few hours at a time and results seen only by a few.”
His graphic work is colourful and bold and mainly features portraits of people, but his portfolio also includes animals and everyday objects. One of his notable works is a portrait of Duckie Simpson, lead singer of the legendary reggae band, Black Uhuru.
His clients include the cities of Turku and Helsinki. His paintings have been widely exhibited in Finland, and he has participated in many live graffiti painting events.
